CBN, Sleep Gummies and Nighttime Cannabis Products

Updated 2026-08-25 · 5 min read

CBN is a minor cannabinoid that forms as THC ages and oxidizes. It appears on New York dispensary menus mostly in edibles and tinctures marketed for nighttime use, usually blended with THC rather than sold on its own.

Where CBN comes from

CBN is a degradation product. Expose THC to oxygen, heat and light over time and some of it converts to cannabinol. That is why older flower tests higher in CBN than fresh flower from the same batch.

Because it forms from degradation rather than being produced in quantity by the plant, CBN in a finished product is normally added deliberately as an isolate rather than harvested from the flower.

Reading a nighttime edible label

Nighttime products carry more numbers than a standard edible, and they are worth separating.

THC per piece
Still the number that decides the dose. Everything else modifies it.
CBN per piece
Usually a smaller figure, often between one and five milligrams alongside the THC.
Added botanicals
Melatonin, chamomile and similar additions appear in some formulations. Check the ingredient panel, not the front of the pack.
Onset window
Edibles typically take between thirty minutes and two hours. Plan the timing around that, not around the label's marketing.

What the evidence does and does not support

CBN has a long standing reputation as a sedating cannabinoid. The honest position is that the research behind that reputation is thin, and several of the studies most often cited involved CBN combined with THC rather than CBN alone.

As a licensed retailer we cannot and will not make a health claim about it. What is fair to say is that CBN blended products are widely stocked, widely bought for nighttime use, and dosed in the same way as any other edible. Whether it suits you is an experiment you run at a low dose.

Questions

What is CBN in cannabis?

CBN, or cannabinol, is a minor cannabinoid that forms when THC oxidizes and ages. Plants produce very little of it directly, so CBN in a finished dispensary product is usually added as an isolate.

Does CBN make you sleepy?

CBN has a long standing reputation for sedation, but the underlying research is limited and much of it tested CBN alongside THC rather than on its own. As a licensed retailer we do not make health claims about it.

How long does a sleep gummy take to work?

Edible onset is typically thirty minutes to two hours depending on the formulation and on what you have eaten. Take the dose well ahead of when you want to sleep, and do not take a second one inside that window.

How much CBN is in a nighttime gummy?

It varies by product, commonly a few milligrams of CBN alongside the THC dose. The per piece figures are printed on the package and on the live menu listing for each item in stock.
